2nd Caldari Championships Part III - The finals
Last 16
The finals are go and amusingly BoB have been drawn against our old enemies:
Dusk and Dawn
The D2 team looked strong enough on paper:
Navy Megathron, Damnation, Curse, Flycatcher, Ishkur
BoB continue with thier original ships and set out to dominate this championships Caldari styleeeee.
The match begins and BoB quickly dispatches the D2 Flycatcher.
Unfortunately, both teams separate and try to remain at their optimals to dish out the pain.
It was then that BoB's tactical superiorness shone through with D2's curse being the next to break.
BoB looked like they could fight all day long without much damage but there were other fights wanting to come on so BoB turned up the heat and obliterated the rest of D2.
Another perfect victory!
The following alliances made it into the last 8:
The Five
Mercenary Coalition
Band of Brothers
Stain- Alliance
Ascendant Frontier
Stain Empire
Morsus Mihi
Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate
Last 8
From here on in, we believed that the matches would get tougher and harder.
However, we were continually coming underfire from certain elements of the eve public for having an extremely weak damage output.
It was time to shut the doubters up by a simple display of extreme power.
The unfortunate victims would be Stain Alliance.
Amusingly, one of the most outspoken pilots against us was Dalman who was in Stain Alliance.
Their line up was:
SA: Machariel, Sliepnir, Curse, Thrasher, Ishkur.
The match begun and somehow the Machariel managed to get stuck on the station and from then on BoB displayed the power it contained.
The Stain Alliance ships exploded one after the other faster than Dianabolic in a Blackpool pub.
Another flawless victory for BoB. No-one had even killed a ship of ours!
Last 4
We were now really down to the best of the best.
In the other semi-final, it was ASCN vs MC.
In our Semi-Final, we had the Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate.
The lead up to the finals had been very interesting from our point of view and the other most outspoken pilot against us in the competition was Tyrrax Thorrk.
He had proclaimed that our tactics, our pilots and just about everything about us was useless. His strategy would win the competition and his team would barely need to turn up to take us and everyone else down.
Now, in my years in eve, I have always tried to view such people with a mocking disregard, however, several of the other BoB pilots took great offence in this and for this reason I believe the whole of BoB was watching this match with great delight.
The teams lined up as follows:
BoB: Caldari Navy Raven, Vulture, Scimitar, Flycatcher, Ishkur
IAC: Caldari Navy Raven, Absolution, Rapier, Heretic, Ishkur
From the outset it seemed like IAC were going for some kind of hybrid armour tanking/shield tanking combination. Somehow, it didn't look like the strategy of a victor but perhaps they knew something we didn't.
The match kicked off and BoB stomped the IAC heretic in the face. It exploded with ease and BoB went into the lead.
With IAC attacking the BoB flycatcher, BoB poured support onto it and held Gunstars tank easily.
It was Tyrrax himself who came under fire next in his Absolution. It was going down fast and there were some tears of joy from the BoB members.
Unfortunately those tears soon turned and exclamations of horror were proclaimed when Kookman in our Scimitar CTD'd.
As this took us by surprise, Gunstar's Flycatcher exploded shortly afterwards and we were in trouble.
TWD's Ishkur followed and we were in real trouble.
It was now BoB's CNR and Vulture vs the IAC Caldari Navy Raven, Absolution, Rapier and Ishkur.
2 ships vs 4 ships.
As IAC threw everything into DB Preacher's Vulture, Kayo and DBP continued their attack on Tyrrax Absolution.
It exploded into a thousand pieces but our guys still felt in deep trouble.
Thankfully though, our much mocked dmg output continued to pound the opposition.
DB Preacher's Vulture soaked up all the dmg from the IAC team and laughed. It was perhaps the opposition who were lacking the dmg output.
IAC's CNR was next to be punished and finally it exploded, winning us the match and the cheer could be heard in Jita!
The MC were dispatched in the other semi and we would be facing ASCN in the final.
Final
The ASCN team we faced in the final was actually part of the original team we faced in the first championships final. This really was the best two teams in the game at that time.
They had perfected tactics that would be called "The Turtle". This was essentially a close range setup built around lastability.
After looking at their tactics, TWD decided to switch our huginn into the battle and the final setups were:
ASCN: Navy Megathron, Eos, Deimos, Eris, Ishtar
BoB: Caldari Navy Raven, Vulture, Huginn, Flycatcher, Ishtar
The huginn was crucial to BoB's success. It was there to keep the ASCN team at bay.
It worked beautifully and ASCN never even got close to BoB. However, BoB couldn't break through the ASCN turtle tank and even though BoB came close due to some smart target changing, ASCN held out for the full 30 minutes.
The final was then decided upon a short range frigate vs frigate fight.
Both teams selected a crow for the final match off.
Gunstar Zero flew our crow and right from the start proved to be the better pilot by selecting a slightly longer range, fast crow setup... more suited to a 1 vs 1 fight than the rocket crow that ASCN brought out.
Gunstar flew spectacularily and the ASCN crow blew up.
BoB were champions again!!
