((In Preachers absence I'll do my best ;)))
When CCP patched "The Cold War" there wasn't many of us, least of all myself, that expected that deployment title to be so appropriate. With the introduction of POS we had soveriegnty and billion isk structures to keep us safe and with which to operate in enemy territory without the risk of getting probed down and killed. Then with the introduction of Dreadnoughts we were given the tools with which to remove these fortress's in space, multi-billion isk behemoths that anchor themselves in space for 10 minutes at a time and jump light years in one go. Along with Dreadnoughts we saw the introduction of Carriers, a small gang force multiplier, that could extend effective air supremacy over entire regions from one central point, and motherships that owned all but the most spread out constellations. The latter two being the biggest threat to each other, aswell as to the vaunted Dreadnought. Finally, the opportunity to build and fly something that people had been looking forward to since release: The ultimate e-peen wand waving extension of virtual manhood: The titan.
All of these things cost billions of isk to produce, carriers costing 1b, dreads costing 2b, motherships costing 16b and titans costing a massive 64b purely in minerals - not including build times or blueprint purchases. The latter two, larger, ships could only be built in POS. For months the great alliances of eve poured everything they had in to constructing and acquiring these spacecraft and ASCN were, in error, finally accredited with being the first to build a Titan, the avatar.
We knew of at least one other in existence before this announcement, but that's by the by for now.
Reikoku had really been no different in this mentality. We had been biding our time, building our own capital fleet, discussing and testing ideas for implementation and using them to clear out our own space aswell as paying the odd visit to those around us. What had already been decided, however, and months prior, was that BoB was going to enter in to another stage of war - as the nights drew in and weather got darker the warriors of Reikoku ramped up for the a winter of warfare. As luck would have it we were inexoribly drawn to the battle most of the cluster had been waiting for: ASCN. Of course, we've called this phase "the pendulum", so whether they remain to be our only target is still to be seen.
For a few weeks DICE had been raiding in Paragon Soul, Fethyabolis and Impass and the rumours were rife within ASCN, fueled by their leaderships own paranoia that we were gunning for them. It's a fair assumption to make, of course, a region as rich as Paragon Soul and a neighbour as pro-active as the BoB and it really would be a case of "when", rather than "if". But, timing really is everything.
In the first weekend of the pendulum ASCN deployed 13 POS in tpar-g. They were all destroyed by the following tuesday. 350 battleships were destroyed, for 30 loss **NOTE FIGURES ARE FROM MEMORY AND WILL BE ADJUSTED FOR ACCURACY** It was, to put it mildly, a slaughter. (Note: The figures don't really tell the whole story, this was a weekend of regular node deaths with teh victor on the battlefield often determined by who logged on first, understood the game better, was used to dealing with it and who could trust in their wingmates to be as eager to log back in as you were. Yes, it is my opinion that we DID deserve these victories, but certianly not as one sided as they were).
Following the fiasco that was the TPAR invasion, where towers were left unarmed and, in some cases, without fuel, some extra towers that never made it in to system were then deployed in TCAG, 3 of them in total and ASCN managed to acquire sovereignty of this system 5 days later. As of today, two of these towers are reinforced, only a final one remains. Earlier this morning BoB forces deployed a single large tower in GQ2, the enemies staging area - this was promptly attacked by ascn who, in the process, lost a dreadnought - the pos was successfully defended and now acts as a staging point for BoB interdiction maneuvers.
There has been combat throughout the days for the past week, it shall continue as we switch up the gears on the war machine and only get more intense.
Will ASCN be ready? Will the rest of EvE?
Find out, in the next great episode of the Reikoku Chronicles.
