HIRING N00BS AND OUR FIRST COMBAT

As everyone knows, if you are to be successful in frigates, you have to have two things:
1. Lots of mental pilots wanting to go up against crazy odds.
2. Massive numbers of pilots wanting to shoot you.

So Ki'li and myself (kin went on holiday for two weeks) set about finding some new recruits and some targets.

Ki'li stuck a message in the Recruitment board and hung around in the new players area for new pilots. He got successful... we hired about 5 new pilots:
Visser, Galavet, Habre and a couple more whose names I forget.
Here is an old recruitment thread with Galavet in it:

They were all new players with no experience and barely any skills. We helped them buy skills and got them into kestrels as soon as possible.

One early memory I have was of my first training session. As I had countless days experience shooting NPC's out in Curse, I knew everything there was to fighting NPC's.
So myself, Habre, Visser, Galavet and one other went in our kestrels to 0.9 space and killed NPC's there. We worked on gang tactics and communication. Then we moved down to 0.8 and 0.7 space! This was the first proper fighting most of the new players had at all!

NPC hunting was ok, but everyone was itching to get our teeth into something a bit bigger. As Jade had gave us cash and ships, we decided to attack TTi in the name of the NVA.

So we declared war on TTi! Our small corp against one of the largest corps in the game at that time. We sorted out a patrol route from Torrinos to Obe and patrolled religiously as often as we could. Eventually, we even found some TTi industrials and would attack them scoring damage on their ships!

Success in our eyes! Damage to the enemy! Countless isk needed for repairs! Hurrah!

After actually killing one the enemy, we started to see TTi in BB's and even *gasp* Battleships.

I remember one memorable TTi person named "Deadmeat". He was US and on the same timescale as Ki'li, Galavet and Visser. He would become our most deadly arch-rival. In his BB, he began picking off members off the corp. We would engage him with all we had and he would run for a bit before catching us alone. The local chat was great, we would laugh and joke about him killing us and us chasing him.

I remember one evening coming on-line in the morning to seeing him and one of his corpmates had found our base in Niyabainen. They had camped it and being the type of corp we were... Ki'li, Galavet and Visser decided to engage him to teach him a lesson.

So they did:
2 x TTi BB's Versus 3 x RKK Kestrels.

They fought around the station, 3 kestrels went pop but one of the BB's took damage. So the 3 RKK pilots got more kestrels and engaged again and then again.

In the end, I think all three pilots were podded and we lost 5 kestrels and my AFK bestower. But we made a name for ourselves there and then. The TTi pilot showed us great respect due to our tenacity and the NVA were notified. (Ki'li had put a call in for reinforcements from the NVA but was told it was too far for them to send ships... this was to be a constant throughout our time in the NVA).

Shortly afterwards, I met Jade and an SPVD pilot circling each other in 1.0 space. The SPVD pilot was in a bestower and was actually participating in an interview about pirate activites. I was in my kestrel and asked Jade if she required any assistance. She said she wasn't going to engage due to the sentry guns but I told her I would kill the SPVD scum or die trying.

I enagaged the SPVD bestower with my full salvo... unfortunately I forgot to ripple fire and only hit her ship once before my cruise missile destroyed the rest with splash damage. Her bestower took heavy damage but my ship was sentry gunned to doom. From that day onwards, Jade told everyone who would listen of our courage and the fact we would fight anyone anywhere.
